The country of Azerbaijan is located near the Caspian Sea. It has about 9 million residents and it gained its independence from the Soviets back in 1991. Among other things its mostly known for its key location in terms of global oil reserves.

The country is mostly Muslim, but it is tolerant to other religions and cultures. Back in the 15th century, it was also a key stop in the so called Silk Road, which is evident in these intricate tapestries and carpets.
