YoutubeJune 19, 2012. (Romereports.com) The Vatican has officially unveiled the Synod on the New Evangelization that will be held in Rome from October 7th to the 22th. The meeting is being called “The New Evangelization in the transmission of the Christian faith”.

A working document was published today, a summary of the comments that 250 bishops and 114 bishops' conferences have given to the Vatican on the New Evangelization.

“We welcome the contribution of the Synod Fathers. This is a document of preparation but later, during the synod, we'll see what the Holy Spirit will inspire in the bishops that take part.”

The document shows the key themes of the next synod, such as the importance of family, laypeople, and media in the transmission of the Christian faith.

“The Church uses the media quite frequently but should be aware of new methods. Also digital media culture is a new challenge for the Church.”

The document also notes that one of the main obstacles to speaking about God is the loss of credibility from cases of sexual abuse. That's why the secretary general of the synod recalled the apologies made by Benedict XVI to victims and the forms of aid that were given.

The Synod will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II and 20 years since the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It was meant to strengthen the faith in countries that were traditionally Christian but where religious practice has declined.
