YoutubeSeptember 5, 2012. (Romereports.com) Laura Álvarez Goyoaga has released her book “Don Jacinto Vera: The missionary saint”. It's the story of Uruguay's first bishop. The book presentation coincided with the presentation of the positio to the Vatican, the main document that begins a cause of canonization.

“I met this man who everyone said was holy. Everyone that knew him described him as a saint and I translated the text from his life into a novel. I felt the need to tell Jacinto's life so that, in the same way that his example had a strong impact on me, I wanted to share that experience with others.”

His biographer, Laura Alvarez, originally was not a believer, however, while writing the book, Vera's life brought her closer to faith.

“I was from a secular community, and I came from a family that was not Catholic by any sense, actually they were very much anticlerical. Then I came upon this Uruguayan saint, the first time I heard about him it caught my attention. I said 'no, this can't be, we could have other types of great characters in Uruguay, but the possibility of a saint was not as clear.”

With his missionary journeys and by creating the first seminary in Uruguay, Jacinto Vera became a key figure in the history of the Catholic Church for the South American country.
