October 31, 2012. (Romereports.com) It was here in Rome, back in the year 1958, that a group of lay people and priests decided to launch a weekly Spanish-language religious magazine. From this idea, 'New Life' magazine was born.
With the Year of Faith, the editorial team wants to extend its reach even further to Chile and Argentina.
JUAN RUBIO
Director, Vida Nueva
“It’s a magazine that is not the voice of the Church, but a voice within the Church. It's a voice that we define as evangelical, unifying, open and always very Church oriented.”
One of the most popular items on its website, is the top ten list the editor wrote to prepare for the Synod on the New Evangelization. The list highlights the need to promote a personal encounter with God, mutual respect, to give hope to the world, and lastly great patience as the new evangelization is promoted.

“The New Evangelization needs to be seen in light of the Second Vatican Council, and to continue the great outcomes of Vatican II. One has to focus on all parts of the world, not just Europe, but all continents. The New Evangelization needs to reach out to the poor, the humble, and those who don't count in society.”
Juan Rubio says some of the challenges of the new evangelization and the Year of Faith include the empowerment of the laity within the Church and the need for higher preparation and training.

“If we don't do this, our laity could end up in two different tracks: laity who are members of new movements and then the laity that belongs to parishes. You have to prepare everyone so they can take on their role in the great mission of the Church, envisioned in Vatican II and the document Lumen Gentium.”
Fifty four years after its first publication, the magazine, is published in Spain, Mexico and Colombia. It also has correspondents in the Vatican, Brazil and Venezuela.
