YoutubeMay 25, 2012. (Romereports.com) Pentecost Sunday is celebrated 50 days after the Resurrection. It is the last day of Easter and commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the Virgin Mary.

Benedict XVI
(Pentecost, May 15, 2005)

“The reading from the Acts of the Apostles speaks of how, on the day of Pentecost, under the signs of a strong wind and fire, the Holy Spirit sweeps into the community of the disciples of Jesus who are in prayer, thus bringing the Church into being.”

At that time the Apostles began their mission of proclaiming the Word of God whenever and wherever they could.

In many parts of the world, the feast of the Pentecost is celebrated on Saturday evening with a vigil. Benedict XVI will preside at the Mass of Pentecost in St. Peter's Basilica on Sunday morning.
