September 28, 2012. (Romereports.com) One by one, these 1200 youths walked in silence to one of the most infamous concentration camps in history. It was a way to reflect on that same journey thousands took to Auschwitz, during WWII...Back then the journey was fueled by hatred. This time around it was the opposite. 


“There is a heartfelt movement that's emerging from here. We're hoping young people like us, will be inspired to do better and be more human so to speak, so we can build a Europe of peace.”

The Europeans for Peace project is organized by the Community of St. Egidio. So fare three have taken place. This last one was held in Krakow. For three days, young Europeans from all over the continent talked about what they can do to promote peace in their countries.

The visit to the concentration camp was followed by a moving ceremony to remember the thousands of victims who died there. Throughout, the theme of respect was central.

In addition to discussion forums, the young adults, also had the opportunity to meet the Archbishop of Krakow, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, as he visited the local sanctuary of Divine Mercy.

The closing ceremony was marked by an emotional farewell in honor of those victims whose life was cut short at Auschwitz.
