Pope makes surprise visit to a 'live Nativity Scene' in Rome

2014-01-07

This was the Pope's welcoming at a  Roman Parish. It was planned as a private visit, but with Pope Francis, that's not really possible.

"Holy Father, Welcome"

"This was supposed to be a private visit, but I guess it can never be private."

"I've lost all privacy”

The live nativity scene was up and running to mark 'Three Kings Day.' The Pope's tour started off with young shepherds.

"Look! Beautiful flowers for Mary”

As the Pope made his way around the Sant' Alfonso Maria de Liguori parish, he greeted all types of characters and joy and laughter quickly followed.

Today's a Holiday. You're not supposed to work.

Now, do all of you pay taxes?

Yes, of course.

Is this for walking or for hitting?

It's for us, for us.

Kids had their drawings ready for the Pope and to follow up with more smiles, the Pope also carried a newborn. But it didn't stop there. To set the example of the good Shepard, he also carried a lamb.

"Poor little guy.”

The Pope then walked into the parish and prayed in private. But even though the attention was on Pope Francis, he made sure the focus turned to Jesus.

Is Jesus always with us? Do you believe this?

Yeeees!!

Is there also room for the devil?

Nooooo!

Sounds good!

So Jesus trumps the devil?

Yes, Yes!

Does the devil conquer us?

Nooooo!

You're sharp. These kids are smart.

Before leaving the Pope thanked the parish for its hospitality, reminding everyone that celebrating Jesus should happen year round.
