April 7, 2015. Pope Francis has appointed Ernesto José Romero Rivas, O.F.M. to be Vicar Apostolic of Tucupita (Venezuela). The Pope has also appointed Vincent Aind to be Bishop of Bagdogra (India).
It looks like yet another trip may be in store for Pope Francis. Over the weekend, he tentatively accepted an invitation to Sri Lanka.
Cardinal Malcom Ranjith invited the Pope, as he and hundreds of his fellow countrymen and women, celebrated 75 years since the country was consecrated to Our Lady.
It was a celebration, but also a time of prayer. The Pope prayed for peace and reconciliation, between the Sinhalese and Tamils. He also highlighted that the country's 26 year civil war brought violence and devastation to the country.
"Unfortunately, many tears have been shed in recent years, on account of the internal conflict which caused so many victims and so much damage. It's not easy, I know, to heal the wounds and cooperate with yesterday’s enemy to build tomorrow together, but it is the only path that gives hope for the future, for development and for peace.”
As far as the invitation to Sri Lanka, no dates have been set, but the Vatican's spokesperson, Fr. Federico Lombardi, says it is a trip the Holy See is looking into.
