May 18, 2015. Msgr. Oscar Romero was adopted as a patron of Caritas Internationalis, according to an announcement that came just after the organization's General Assembly in Rome ended. The former Archbishop of San Salvador will be beatified on May 23, more than 35 years after he was assassinated while performing Mass.
Pope Francis celebrated his first consistory by creating 19 cardinals. Wearing the red attire that distinguishes cardinals, they knelt before Pope Francis as he blessed them and gave them their traditional red beretta.
The first six cardinals on the list include:
-Vatican's Secretary of State, Msgr. Pietro Parolin.
-Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops
-Gerhard Ludwig Muller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
-Beniamino Stella, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy.
-Vincent Gerard Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster
-Leopoldo Jose Brenes Solorzano, Archbishop of Managua, Nicaragua.
