Pope Francis sends message for 2015 World Day of the Sick
Pope Francis has issued a powerful message for the World Day of the Sick, which takes place on February 11th.

The Pope thanked those who care for the sick, adding that time spent with the ill, is sacred. He also calls for Catholics to embrace wisdom of the heart.

"Occasionally our world forgets the special value of time spent at the bedside of the sick, since we are in such a rush; caught up as we are in a frenzy of doing, of producing, we forget about giving ourselves freely, taking care of others, being responsible for others,” writes the Pope.

Former Chaldean patriarch, Cardinal Emmanuel III Delly passed away at 86

Former Chaldean Patriarch and Iraqi-born Cardinal Emmanuel III Delly passed away on April 9, in San Diego, California. He was 86 years old.

The Patriarch emeritus was born in 1927. He studied theology in Rome, but returned to his native Iraq after. In that time, Card. Delly faced many challenges, as the country underwent major changes and difficult situations.

CARD. EMMANUEL III DELLY
November 5, 2010
"The only medicine that can save Iraq now, that can bring back sanity to Iraq, health to Iraq, is prayer to Our Lord. He will know how to find the path to security, tranquility, and peace in Iraq.”

Benedict XVI created him cardinal in November 2007, becoming the first Chaldean Patriarch elevated to the College of Cardinals.

With his death, the number of cardinals decreased to 216. But since he was over 80,  Card. Delly was no longer eligible to take part in the last conclave. The number papal electors still stands at 119.
