Pope accepts the resignation of Cardinal O'Brien

The miracle cure for Floribeth Mora paved the way for the canonization of John Paul II. The 50-year-old Costa Rican woman was cured, without scientific explanation, from an irreversible brain aneurysm. She has no doubt that John Paul II cured her.

In April 2011, she was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.

In May, Flory, as her friends call her, saw the beatification of John Paul II on television. The next day, something unexpected happened.

FLORIBETH MORA
"From the emptiness of my room, I heard a voice that told me: 'Get up.' I got up, I walked into the kitchen where my husband was and he says: 'What are you doing?' I said: 'I feel fine.'”

Months later, the doctors confirmed her inexplicable cure. Afterward, Flory shared her story online. At that point the postulator for Karol Wojtyla began looking into her case.

"It was something that, like the doctors said, could have been considered a growth, a part of the body that had been cut. Because, in reality, what happened inside her brain, where there had been an aneurysm, the way it had developed, evolved, it makes us think of restitutio integrum. In other words, the total disappearance, the restoration to how it was before the sickness developed. There was no trace of the cause of the woman's suffering.”

Slawomir Oder said that what convinced him about her testimony was that Floribeth never sought out attention.

"Her healing is an answer of God's Providence, through the intercession of John Paul II, to the prayer of a mother who prayed so that her family, her husband, her children, her grandchildren, wouldn't be left without the presence of their mother, wife and grandmother.”

These days, Floribeth Mora is preparing for her trip to Rome on April 27. She will hand Pope Francis the relics of John Paul II, during his canonization ceremony.
