April 7, 2015. Pope Francis has appointed Ernesto José Romero Rivas, O.F.M. to be Vicar Apostolic of Tucupita (Venezuela). The Pope has also appointed Vincent Aind to be Bishop of Bagdogra (India).
Pope Francis met for the first time with the new Council for the Economy, which was created back in February. The team is made up of 8 cardinals and 7 lay people, who will be in charge of overseeing the economic and administrative affairs of all Vatican departments.
"The Church is aware of Her responsibility to protect and manage Her assets carefully, in light of Her mission of evangelization, with particular care for the needy.”
The Council will oversee the finances of the Vatican's 230 departments. It's meant to be a way for the Curia to focus on its primary responsibilities and not in managing resources.
The Pope acknowledged that it won't be an easy task. He said all members will need courage and determination to embrace a new mentality of service, which should characterize, he said, the administration of the Holy See.
Pope Francis also had a special message for the seven lay members of the Council. He told them that in the group, they have the same authority as the Cardinals, adding that they are not second class citizens.
