Pope Francis met with a group of experts on the Bible, who are currently convening in Rome.

He commented on the roles men and women play in scripture.

POPE FRANCIS
'St. John Paul II also spoke about this in a memorable cycle of catechesis during the first part of his pontificate. I did so too, in a catechesis last year, in which I spoke about the first passage of creation. I had the opportunity to underline that after God created the universe and all living things, He created His work of art.

The pope explained that human beings are created in the image of God, and that is why they possess dignity. However, this dignity, Pope Francis said, can be worn down or even lost if one embraces idolatry. He explained that this happens when God is replaced by riches.
