Just as his predecessors did before him, Pope Francis has met with the Jesuit representatives from all over the world who are convening in Rome for the General Congregation. But Pope Francis did something his predecessors did not do, he has gone to see them at the Generalate.

Pope Francis told them that they cannot fulfill their mission without joy. He asked them to not let enemies rob them of it 'making them despair before the magnitude of the evils of the world and the misunderstandings amongst those who those who wish to do good, or replacing it with passing joys which are always at our reach.

Last week they chose their new Superior General, Venezuelan Arturo Sosa. Now, meetings are focusing on drafting a roadmap for the near future. They will do it keeping in mind the pope's speech, a text that exudes optimism and enthusiasm for the future of the Society of Jesus.
