Pope asks Gordon Brown to remember poor during G20 Summit
Benedict’s letter specifically asked Prime Minister Brown to not forget the poor during the G20 conference held last week in London, where world leaders met to discuss the economic crisis.
In his letter, the Pope recalled his recent trip to Africa, and told Mr. Brown that he had seen firsthand how the economic crisis is affecting those in developing countries, and said it would only worsen with the current crisis.
Mr. Brown promptly responded thanking the Pontiff for his concern, and reassuring him that the talks in London would take into account those suffering from poverty, calling it one of his “top priorities.”
He went on to say that even during economic hardship, the world’s poor should never be forgotten, and that rich countries should stand by their commitment to provide aid to those countries that need it most.
