Bishop of Regensburg denies Georg Ratzinger is linked to molestation allegations

Gerhard MüllerBishop of Regensburg“Currently there hasn’t been any new registered case in the Diocese of Regensburg. There’s ; three cases that surfaced in the past and are getting ; mixed up.”

One of those cases dates back to 1958, when the director of an elementary school linked to a cathedral’s choir, was accused ; of child abuse. The priest was charged, tried and convicted. Then another priest who worked for the same choir was also convicted 12 years later for sexual misconduct also in 1958.

Currently cases involving 3 young men are being investigated, allegedly the abuse happened in the 60’s when they lived in housing related to the choir.

Bishop Muller says, Georg Ratzinger has no connection with these cases since he was in charge of the choir much later, from 1964 to 1994.Gerhard MüllerBishop of Regensburg“There have been inaccurate reports in the German press because there was one person who was sentenced on abuse charges, but the case was not connected to the choir. That’s why Georg Ratzinger is completely innocent in all of this.”

The German bishop also pointed out the need to discuss the known abuse cases, and reiterated that all priests and religious who commit sexual abuse will be removed from office and could be removed from all ministry if they reoffend.
