Pope talks about his meeting with sex abuse victims

Benedict XVI“I met with some of the victims of clerical sexual abuse. I shared their suffering and, greatly moved, prayed with them, giving them assurances of the Church?s action.”

The pope also recalled his recent trip to Malta which marked the 1,950th anniversary of St. Paul’s shipwreck to the island.

Benedict XVI“The Christian vision, so deeply rooted in Maltese life and culture, continues to provide inspiration for meeting the great social and moral challenges of the present time. As a natural crossroads, Malta has never been isolated or self-enclosed, nor has the Maltese cross, which I saw waving everywhere.”

Benedict XVI thanked everyone who had a hand in welcoming him and receiving him during his two day visit.

Benedict XVI“I am deeply grateful to the civil and church authorities, and to all who received me so warmly.”

The pope welcomed about 15-thousand pilgrims at St. Peter’s Square.
