Benedict XVI: "Decriminalizing abortion is a betrayal to democracy"

Benedict XVI

"When political agendas openly or covertly contemplate the decriminalization of abortion or euthanasia, the democratic ideal, which is truly democratic when it recognizes and protects the dignity of every human person, is betrayed in its fundamentals."

This was addressed to a group of Brazilian bishops, a few days before Brazil?s presidential elections. They will be held on October 31 and the pro-life vote will be a decisive factor.

The Pope added that bishops and priests can not say for which political party Catholics should vote. However, they are required to indicate what principles prevent us from constructing a more just society.
