Pope thanks Spanish hosts for their hospitality

Benedict XVIENGLISH ORIG ;“I came as a pilgrim among pilgrims in this Holy Year of Compostela, to venerate the Apostle Saint James the Greater.” Benedict XVI highlighted the Mass he celebrated in Obradoiro square in which he called for Europe to open themselves to Christ. And on his visit to Barcelona he noted the great work of Gaudí which he called “a praise to God in stone.” Benedict XVI ENGLISH ORIGIn this magnificent edifice Gaudí wished to celebrate the eternal source of all beauty, made flesh in Jesus Christ, who calls all humanity to become, in the Church, a temple in which God dwells.” The Pope said he hopes his trip will serve to increase the faith of the Christians in Spain and throughout the world. When saying good-bye he commented that he looked forward to his return next August for World Youth Day in Madrid. The music-loving Pope also mentioned the musical performances he enjoyed during the trip. Sailors from the Naval Academy in Marin sang the Salve Marinera and the chorus of Montserrat, the ?Virolai?, a hymn to Our Lady of Montserrat, the patroness of Catalonia. BR/AE
