Pope meets with Latin American Jewish Congress at the Vatican

Benedict XVI talked about dynamic Jewish communities in Latin America, that live alongside Catholics. Especially in countries like Argentina and Brazil. He also recalled the Second Vatican Council's Declaration titled 'Nostra Aetate', which promoted the understanding, respect and cooperation between Catholics and Jews. BENEDICT XVI "The Declaration not only took up a clear position against all forms of anti-Semitism, but also laid the foundations for a new theological evaluation of the Churchâ??s relationship with Judaism, expressing the confidence that an appreciation of the spiritual heritage that Jews and Christians share will lead to increasing understanding and esteem.â? The Pope went on to say that the current loss of spiritual and moral values in society, could lead to less respect for human dignity. So to prevent that from happening, he said that dialogue between religions and cultures is crucial for a hopeful  future. OFL/KLH CTV - -BN
