China responds after release of US Freedom of Religion Report

The report said there was a “marked deterioration in 2011” pointing to repression in Tibetan areas and the western region of the country which is home to many Muslims. ;

It also cited 12 Buddhists monks who lit themselves on fire in response to government restrictions on freedom of worship. ;

Chinese officials gave their response through the State news agency saying the report was “a political tool used to exert pressure on other countries”.
