New site allows access to hundreds of historical archives from the Holy Land

The Israel Antiquities Authority launched the web page earlier this year, containing historical archives from the Holy Land preceding the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948, a period known as the British Mandate for Palestine.

Users can choose by location, where the documents were drafted or found, such Acre in the northern part of modern-day Israel, or in Jerusalem.

The items vary from government request for excavations, to maps of the Holy Land. It also features a number of administrative documents like Jerusalem city council notes.

The original documents are found at the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem. ;They were digitized using a special method that allowed the documents to be scanned and uploaded without damaging the sensitive materials.
