Pope urges Latin America bishops to keep missionary spirit alive
CARD. RUBEN SALAZAR
Archbishop of Bogotá
"It is a joy for me to be able to speak about Latin America. Above all of what is in our hearts, especially the implementation of this new spirit of evangelization that means 'Aparecida.' This is the document that has helped all the churches of Latin America to have this missionary spirit. An attitude of bringing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with our love and witness to others. It was also a joy to receive his guidelines and comments. He gave us precise indications about so many things.â?
CELAM started in Rio of Janeiro in 1955. Since then, bishops periodically get together to evaluate how their pastoral work has been implemented. Monsignor Carlos Aguiar Retes, Archbishop of Tlalnepantla, Mexico is conference's current president.
