Benedict XVI and Francis meet in the Vatican Gardens

POPE FRANCIS“We?ve gathered here today in the Vatican Gardens to unveil a sculpture of Saint Michael Archangel, the patron of Vatican City. It is something that had been planned a long time ago and that was approved by Pope Benedict XVI, whom we address with all our affection and thanksgiving. We also want to express to him our great joy in having him here today among us. Thank you so much.”The statue is made of bronze and is about 16 feet high.Pope Francis also explained that St. Michael represents the power God has against evil. The sculpture, the Pope added, reminds us that the devil has been defeated once and for all. POPE FRANCIS“In the Vatican Gardens there are several works of art. But this, which has now been added, takes on particular importance, in its location as well as in the meaning it expresses. In fact it is not just celebratory work, but an invitation to reflection and prayer, that fits well into the Year of Faith.”Pope Francis also went on to congratulate the sculptor and his family. This day marks the second public appearance of Pope Francis and Benedict XVI together. The Pope Emeritus even wished Pope Francis well ahead of his trip to Rio for World Youth Day. BENEDICT XVI“Have a good trip to Rio”POPE FRANCISThank you, pray for me.VIC / BBCTV-VM-PRUp:SCar
