Kiko Argüello draws 50,000 young people in Rio for vocational gathering

The numbers far exceeded  expectation and thousands of young people were forced to watch the gathering  like this: before giant screens. More than 50,000 people met in Rio for a  vocational gathering organized by the Neocathecumenal Way,  which for many years now is held right after WYD.

Speaking to youths from more than 70 countries, Kiko Argí¼ello reminded them that they cannot live just for themselves. In fact, he made a very direct request.

Kiko Argí¼ello added that China needs 20,000 priests and that vocations are lacking in Europe and the rest of the world. One of the gathering's most crucial moments followed.

This was their response, young men running towards the stage. Nearly 3,000 people stood. The archbishop of Rio, Orani Tempesta, then gave them his blessing.

Then it was the women's turn. Argí¼ello asked who in the group felt a calling to live a consecrated life or to volunteer in carrying out the new evangelization, nearly 2,000 of them stood up.
