Pope improvises prayer asking for work for the unemployed
Near the end of his meeting with labor representatives in Sardinia, Pope Francis improvised an emotional prayer on behalf of unemployed workers. The Pope recalled that Jesus, as a carpenter, never lacked work. That's why he asked God to teach us how to "fight for work.â?
"Now, I wanted to close off by praying with all of you, in silence. In silence, praying with all of you. I will say what comes from my heart, and you pray in silence with me.
Lord, God, look at us! Look at this city, this island. Look at our families.
Lord, You have never lacked work. You were a carpenter, you were happy.
Lord, we are lacking work.
Idols want to rob us of dignity. The unfair system wants to rob us of hope.
Lord, do not leave us alone. Help us help each other; so that we may forget selfishness, and so that we hear within our hearts 'our,' our people that needs to move forward.
Lord Jesus Christ, to You that never lacked work, give us work and teach us to fight for work, and bless us all.
In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.â?
