Pope Francis on death: We don't know when, but we'll meet God

Every November the Pope celebrates a special Mass in Saint Peter's Basilica in memory of the cardinals and bishops that passed away during the year. Nine cardinals died in 2013, five of them after the election of Pope Francis.

During his homily, the Pope talked about God's mercy. He explained that Jesus takes both good and evil in his hands.

POPE FRANCIS

"It is not by chance that Jesus wanted to preserve the wounds on his hands to make us feel his mercy. This is our strength and our hope!"

Pope Francis added that the deceased cardinals and bishops have already met God, and that Catholics should always be ready for that encounter.

POPE FRANCIS

"And let us also pray for ourselves, that the Lord may prepare us for this encounter. We do not know the date, but that encounter will take place."

The Pope also prayed for the 136 bishops and archbishops that passed away, in different parts of the world in the last 12 months. ; ;
