Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's new Secretary of State will arrive to Rome on Saturday

It has been over a month now, since the Pope held a welcoming ceremony for the Vatican's new Secretary of State

Ironically, Pietro Parolin wasn't able to attend his own welcoming party, since he was recuperating from an operation. His predecessor, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said Parolin will be in Rome by next Saturday, November 16th.

CARD. TARCISIO BERTONE

Former Secretary of State

"I want to take this moment to wish good luck to my successor, his Excellency Msgr. Pietro Parolin, who actually called me today. He asked me to greet you all on his behalf and he said he will be here in Rome on Saturday. So, soon, he will assume his new post.â?

As Secretary of State, Parolin will hold the number two post at the Vatican. At 58 years old, he has served in Vatican diplomacy for 27 years, working in countries like Nigeria, Mexico and most recently Venezuela

Under Pope Francis, Parolin's role will be slightly different from that of Bertone. The Pope's new advisory council, which includes eight cardinals, will take on some of the responsibilities that were traditionally assigned to the Secretary of State, most notably helping out with communication among the world's dioceses, episcopal conference and the Pope.
