Pope Francis will visit the Vatican's Santa Marta Medical Center

On Saturday, Pope Francis will visit the Vatican's Santa Marta medical center. He plans on greeting families who receive care and also with doctors and volunteers who help out in this small, but important hospital.

It won't be the first time a Pontiff pays a visit. Benedict XVI went back in 2005, walking through all the departments and greeting workers and those they care for. He even got a chance to meet with young patients and receive gifts.

BENEDICT XVI

December 30, 2005

"It's with great affection that I greet all of you who work in this dispensary, which bares the name of Santa Marta, sister of Mary and of Lazarus. We see her great accessibility through our Divine Lord.â?

The Santa Marta dispensary, gives medical and psychological support to families in need. Some are from Rome, but many are from Latin America and the Middle East. Everyone is welcomed, regardless of their religion. In fact, Muslims, Buddhist and of course Christians receive care.

It was founded on May 8th, 1922 with the blessing of Pope Pius XI. Different volunteers take part, but it's managed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
