Parents in Madrid, children in Lima: Let's all meet in Saint Peter's!
Members of this Peruvian family hadn't seen each other for a long time: both parents work in Madrid, while their children study in Lima. But they all came together in Rome to see Pope Francis.
"We are meeting now our children after four years, four years and a half.â?
They explained excitedly how they all longed for a visit to Saint Peter's Square. Especially since 25 years have gone by since a Pope last visited Peru.
"Since 1989 a Pope hasn't come to our country. The last one was John Paul II and it was exciting to see a Pope so close that you could almost feel him... It was also very comforting for us.â?
Out in St. Peter's Square they personally saw that Pope Francis is all about being close to the people. That's why they think a second visit to Latin America would thrill Peruvians.
"We would ask him to go to Peru to offers his blessings as Holy Father. All of Peru would be very thankful, and perhaps all Latinamerica.â?
They still don't know when the next family reunion will be, but recognize that the words of the Pope gave them strength to bare the distance.
"Let's pray that we can meet again soon. Whether it's us going to Lima, or our children visiting again Madrid. In two years, or one maybe.â?
For the moment, they will all go back to their cities without knowing if Rome will host their family reunion for a second time.
