Pope meets with president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades

(-ONLY VIDEO-) The Pope welcomed the president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, to the Vatican's Apostolic Palace. ;

During their Saturday meeting, they talked about the positive impact religion plays in society and also the need to protect religious freedom. ;

Tension in the Middle East was also a discussion point, as well as the hardships faced by Christian communities in the region. ;

For years, the diplomatic ties between Turkey and Cyprus have been tense. But the Pope was happy to hear that both states have improved their relationship by engaging in dialogue. ;
