Pontifical Commission for Latin America celebrates Plenary Assembly on youth

One of the challenges the Catholic Church faces in Latin America today is the evangelization of youth.

The Pontifical Commission for Latin America gathered last week in Rome under the theme "Educative emergency and transmition of faith in Latin American youth.

CARD. LEOPOLDO BRENES SOLí?RZANO

Archbishop of Managua (Nicaragua)

"First we saw the instability of our youth, and how little they feel they are loved. After, also, we considered the lash of drugs and then, in political terms, that maybe young people don't want to take part in politics.â?

For the Commission, the WYD in Rio proved that young people also have faith and joy. However, months later, it recognizes that there are a lot of things to do.

CARD. ODILO SCHERER

Archbishop de Sí£o Paulo (Brazil)

"It is true that there are some young people that walk with Church. Still, most of them don't. The Church is not in touch with them, in the sense that is not that close to them. It lacks some pastoral organizations, among other things, to get closer to the youth.

Pope Francis, who was member of this Commission, reminded its members that the Church must always welcome youth just as Christ did.
