Portuguese Cardinal, José Policarpo, dies at 78

Portuguese Cardinal and Patriarch Emeritus of Lisbon, José da Cruz Policarpo  has passed away. He died on Wednesday, March 12th  from heart complications at the age of 78.  Born in Alvorninha in 1936, he was made a cardinal by John Paul II back on February 21, 2001.  He took part in two conclaves, the one where Benedict XVI was elected and then Pope Francis.  Evangelizing was one of his priorities. Ten years ago during an interview, he described it as the main challenge the Church was facing.  CARD. JOSÉ DA CRUZ POLICARPO  March 13, 2004  "The Church is about evangelizing, right? I think  this is one of its main challenges.
