Pope Francis gives 'pocket Gospels' during Angelus

Thousands of pilgrims who made it to St. Peter's Square on Sunday for the Angelus, went back home with a gift from Pope Francis. POPE FRANCIS "Today I want to offer to you who are here in the Square â?? but really as a symbol for everyone â?? a pocket Gospel book.â? The Pope explained that it's tradition to give a Gospel to anyone who is getting Baptized on Easter. But reading the Gospel, he said, is something that all Christians should welcome at all times. POPE FRANCIS "Take it, carry it with you and read it every day. It's Jesus Himself who speaks to you in the Gospel. It's the Word of Jesus, this is the Word of Jesus.â? The Gospel was given out for free, but the Pope did ask for a favor in return. He asked everyone to share its message with others. POPE FRANCIS "Maybe there's someone who doesn't believe that this is free: 'How much is it? How much do I have to pay for it, Father?' OK, so let's do this... To pay for this gift, do an act of charity, a little gesture of love, for free. Pray for an enemy, reconcile with somebody, do something.â? Pope Francis also reminded everyone that with high technology like smart phones and tablets, it's now easier than ever, to read the Gospel. He emphasized that all means are valid, as long as it's read "with an open heart.â? PM/PM/KLH CTV VM -BN Up: KLH
