Carlos Vives, Goyo and Herencia de Timbiquí welcome the pope with "I give the first step"

Colombians are preparing for Pope Francis' visit with the rhythm of traditional music.

“I take the first step” is shaped by a mixture of classic songs from African-American communities. It is a collaboration between Colombian artists and music groups, such as Carlos Vives, Goyo and Herencia de Timbiquí.

The melody is a hopeful cry inviting listeners to look toward the future with optimism. It suggests that Colombians should take advantage of Pope Francis' visit, and use it as a way to begin a new chapter of history in a newly reconciled country.
