The Feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is honored in the Vatican in a special way and this year will be no less. At 6:00 p.m., Rome time, the pope will celebrate a Mass in which many Latin Americans traditionally participate.

As in other years, a guest choir will sing during the celebration and contribute a cultural aspect as well. They are the vocal and instrumental group 'Domenico Zipoli Ensemble,' who will interpret a repertoire of the Jesuit songs from South America during the 17th and 18th centuries. They will perform a rendition of “Agnus Dei,” composed by Francisco Varayu, an indigenous disciple of Zipoli, whom the Ensemble is named after.

At previous Guadalupe Masses, the Vatican held a Creole Mass composed by Argentinian Ariel Ramírez, or performed various songs in Quechua, Nahuatl, Guaraní, Mapuche and Spanish.

The tradition of a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica for this solemnity began with Benedict XVI. This will be the sixth time it is done.
