Pope Francis at Santa Marta: Repentant heart tells the Lord the truth, He always forgives

In his homily at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis reminded the first step to receiving God's forgiveness is recognizing one has committed a sin.

POPE FRANCIS “This pleases the Lord, because the Lord receives a repentant heart like Azariah says, 'There's no disappointment for those who trust in you.' The repentant heart tells the Lord the truth: 'I've done this, Lord. I've sinned against You.' The Lord covers his mouth, like the father to the prodigal son, he doesn't let him speak. He covers him with His love. He forgives everything.”

To conclude, the pope urged Christians to not be ashamed of confessing their own sins, because God always forgives.

EXCERPTS FROM THE POPE'S HOMILY (Source: Vatican News) The Pope said that accusing oneself and not others is part of Christian wisdom. This is the attitude the Pope recommended when approaching the sacrament of penance- The great God has given me so much and unfortunately I have sinned. I have offended the Lord and I ask for salvation.

God will forgive us only if we forgive others without any rancor. He warned about the danger of allowing ourselves to being enslaved by hatred. He reminded Christians that the first requisite for being pardoned by God is to recognize ourselves as sinners.
