LIVE: Prayer encounter for peace in Middle East

Pope Francis and other Christian leaders meet for the first time to pray for peace in the Middle East.

The site chosen for the ecumenical prayer is a symbolic one: Bari. According to tradition, it houses the remains of St. Nicholas, a saint venerated by both Eastern and Western churches.

Following his arrival, the pope and his counterparts will pray before the remains in the basilica and on the maritime path before holding a private meeting for dialogue on the situation in the Middle East.
