A reformer, St. Francis of Assisi; an evangelist, G.K. Chesterton; an artist, Michelangelo. They're from a diverse range of people throughout history that, according to Bishop Robert Barron, all embraced the same vision.

ROBERT BARRON
Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Los Angeles
“They all have a keen sense of the transcendent. Their lives were lived not in abstraction from the transcendent, as often is the case today.” “They knew, as Evelyn Waugh put it that the 'supernatural is the real.'”

“Pivotal Players” is a new 12-part series in which each section examines an influential person in Church history from ancient to modern times. It features Bishop Barron, an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles who uses media to educate people about the Catholic faith.

Ranging from the monastic life of St Benedict to people such as modern-day writer G.K. Chesterton, this diverse range of people, covered by the documentary shows, from Bishop Barron's perspective, that the Church is humanistic in its nature.

ROBERT BARRON
Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Los Angeles
“The Church lifts up, celebrates what is best in our humanity that is why we have been the friend of the arts and of music and of science at our best...”

Bishop Barron in this documentary, also wanted to show how even someone like Michelangelo was deeply informed by the Christian faith.

ROBERT BARRON
Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Los Angeles
“How many people realize how deeply spiritual Michelangelo was? And how deeply informed all his work is by the Christian faith?...” “Looking at David now with the Christian eyes, you see an antecedent of Christ. Christ is the son of David. Christ is the new David.”

The “Pivotal Players” documentary is a part of Bishop Barron's “Word On Fire” media ministry that utilizes the tools of new media to educate people worldwide about the Catholic faith. This new documentary and its individual episodes are available on the website wordonfire.org.
