New cardinals: Pope Francis announces names during Angelus


Pope Francis will held a consistory on October 5 for the nomination of 13 new Cardinals. 

Their names of the new Cardinals are:

Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, mccj – President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

José Tolentino Medonça – Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church 

Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo – Archbishop of Jakarta (Indonesia)

Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez – Archbishop de San Cristóbal of Havana (Cuba)

Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, o.f.m. cap – Archbishop of Kinshasa (Congo)

Jean-Claude Höllerich, sj – Archbishop of Luxembourg

Alvaro L. Ramazzini Imeri – Bishop di Huehuetenamgo (Guatemala)

Matteo Zuppi – Archbishop of Bologna (Italy)

Cristóbal López Romero, sdb – Archbishop of Rabat (Morocco)

Michael Czerny, sj – Undersecretary of the Migrants and Refugees Section of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Development

Along with these new Cardinals, the pope is adding two archbishops and a bishop, all three older than 80. They cannot participate in an eventual conclave.

They are:

Michael Louis Fitzgerald – Archbishop Emeritus of Nepte

Sigitas Tamkevicius, sj – Archbishop Emeritus of Kaunas

Eugenio Dal Corso, psdp – Bishop Emeritus of Benguela
