After the Consistory in St. Peter's Basilica the 13 new cardinals visited pope emeritus Benedict XVI with Pope Francis.

One by one they greeted him personally and with much affection. Some, like the archbishop of Rabat, even joked with him.

Your predecessor came to Morocco, his successor too, you have to come.

Benedict XVI, 92 years old, asked the new cardinals to be faithful to the pope. Pope Francis was sitting next to him and when they said goodbye they imparted the blessing to the cardinals together.

Visiting the pope emeritus after each consistory has become a mandatory encounter. Both Benedict XVI and the new cardinals await this moment with mutual enthusiasm.
