Giorgio Assumma was Ennio Morricone's lawyer and friend who was chosen by his family to break the news of the great composer's passing.

He remembers him as a deep person with a clear set of values.

“I once took him to the university to have a meeting with my students. One asked him what rules he followed when working. Morricone said they were few and very simple. The first is not to be in a hurry, because the rush causes us not to pay attention to the small details. The second is to avoid superficiality The third is to be cultured. The next is not wishing to succeed at all costs. We just have to think about doing our job well. If success comes it is secondary.”

He also remembers Morricone was a believer and, above all, a man very much in love with his wife.

“I once asked him if he prayed and how he prayed. And he said: I pray in my own way. I say the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary, but I almost always address the Lord saying: Don't let me fail. Help me not to make a mistake. FLASH Once asked: Which do you prefer of these four things? Music, family, your wife, or Roma, the soccer team? He said: my wife.”

Giorgio Assumma had known Ennio Morricone for decades and assures that there were many things he learned from him.

“I learned from him what it means to be good professionals but also good men. He was very good and very sensitive to human miseries. He also did acts of charity and philanthropy, but in secret. I once asked him who the saints were to him. He replied that the saints are the people, also the humblest, who do their job well.”

Ennio Morricone died in Rome at dawn on July 6 and as he wanted: in privacy, without spectacle, and, faithful to one of his main principles, that of not seeking notoriety.

Italians paid tribute to him from social networks and from the streets. The notes of one of his soundtracks for the film ' Lady Caliph' resonated in style in Piazza Navona. For a few moments people stopped talking about the pandemic to farewell the great teacher and enjoy his best compositions.
