Card. Christian Wiyghan Tumi was freed after being kidnapped by a group of armed men on the road between Bamenda and Kumbo, in Cameroon.
The cardinal began receiving threats after encouraging children to return to school following a violent attack. Even Pope Francis condemned this attack that left eight children dead.

“I feel great bewilderment at such a cruel and senseless act, which tore away the life of innocent children while they were attending lessons at school. May God enlighten hearts, so that similar gestures may never be repeated and so that the tormented regions of the country may finally find peace.”
A group of primary school teachers in Kumbo was also kidnapped.
