In 2023, 11 cardinals will turn 80 years old and lose their right to vote in future conclaves.

Of the College of Cardinals, Italy will lose the most electors with a total of 5. Many of the Italian cardinals are prominent figures in the Curia like Domenico Calcagno.

Another is Angelo Comastri, the archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica. One of his most recent public appearances was the Marian procession in May in St. Peter's. There, he remembered the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981.

Remember that while he was being taken to the Gemelli hospital, John Paul II had the strength to say: I forgive the brother who shot me.
A few days later he said: while a murderous hand was shooting to kill me, a motherly hand stopped the Pope on the verge of death.

Among the non-Italians who will lose the right to vote are Argentinean Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Peruvian Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani and Korean Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo Jung. Others include Bangladeshi Cardinal Patrick D'Rozario and Malian Cardinal Jean Zerbo.

If nothing new happens, the number of cardinal electors will remain at 115 at the end of 2023. With a total of 44, the majority of electors will still be European. Following behind are Latin America with a total of 20 and Asia with a total of 19.
