LIVE: Vatican inaugurates Christmas tree and Nativity Scene

The inauguration of the Vatican manger and Christmas tree will take place this afternoon in St. Peter's Square at 5 p.m., local time.

The Nativity scene, from the Italian region of Abruzzo, is made up of larger-than-life ceramic statues.

The 75-year-old spruce from Slovenia weighs seven tons and is 30 meters tall.

Though a limited number of people will be allowed to enter the Square for the event, both the manger and the tree will be on display until Jan. 10, 2021.
