Dominican group uses salsa and Latin beats to sing about God

They're name is Alfareros, potters, and they're from the Dominican Republic. Fermin, Gina, Altermio and Junior identify as passionate Catholics, and they use music to share their love for the Church.

ALTERMIO VARGAS

"Alfareros came to be in 1995, because a group of young people saw that they could use music as a positive influence within the community. We decided to take up this concept to worship the Lord without any type of limits or restrictions.�

Their name doesn't derive from the well-known Dominican pottery, but rather, a verse from Chapter 18 of the Book of Jeremiah.

ALTERMIO VARGAS

"The Lord sends the prophet to the potter's house, to see that when he builds a pot and it doesn't turn out the way he wants, he destroys it and starts again.�

They played for the Pope during the World Youth Day in Rio in 2013. Upbeat Latin rhythms and catchy lyrics have made many young people dance, but there's more behind their music.

"The key to everything is prayer, and the Lord will send us inspiration, from all our aspects as Christians.�

This month the group will turn 19. The Alfareros hope for many more years performing and spreading their message.
