Six out of ten Spaniards believe that the Catholic Church carries out its mission well. That's according to a survey done by the Carmen de Noriega Foundation. ;

A total of 1,200 people were asked ;a series of questions about the Church in Spain and religious practice in general. More than 62 percent identified as Catholic, yet only one in four said they go to Mass every week. ;

When it comes to choosing a parish, the study says that eight out of every ten people look at the quality of homilies at the top of their criteria. Knowing the priest is also important. ;

The majority, about 62 percent, says it respects the work the Church carries out in the country, especially when it comes to helping the needy. Culturally speaking, they also believe that the Church plays a key role in preserving its heritage. ;

The survey also points out that six out of ten people believe that the media doesn't represent the Church accurately, noting that it focuses on stereotypes and only covers the negative. ;

But the study also points out that the Church needs to do a better job in the way it communicates its core message and its work. ;
