Despite the heavy rain, thousands of people came out to St. Peter's Square to pray the Angelus with Pope Francis.
Reflecting on Sunday's Gospel, the Pope spoke about the multiplication of loaves and fishes, and why it's timeless. He explained that since the very start, Jesus felt compassion for the needy, worrying about feeding them. This he said, is something Christians should emulate.

'They don't have food, clothes or even access to medicine. Our needs, although legitimate, are not as urgent as those of the poor.â?
He then added that there are two opposing world views. First, selfishness and then that of sharing and compassion, which comes from God.

'How many times do we turn the other way to not face our brothers and sisters in need? Looking away is a polite and elegant way of saying, 'you figure it out.' This is not the way of Jesus. That is selfish.â?
Through the miracle of multiplying fish and loaves the Pope explained that in a way Jesus was foretelling the Eucharist. It's with the Eucharist that one can respond to other's needs, with compassion.
