Pope Francis has spoken extensively on the plight of the Iraqi people. The Pope has also taken to Twitter to voice his concern and call for prayers over the weekend.

His @Pontifex account, which boasts close to 15 million followers in 9 languages, has proven to reach an audience that is attentive to the Pope's words.

On Friday, August 8th, the Pope sent out three tweets, praying for those in Iraq who have lost their homes. The terrorist group ISIS forced Christians to either convert to Islam or flee their homes.

The following day, he called on Catholic parishes to offer prayers for Iraqi Christians.

Several hours later, he again appealed for peace in the region, tweeting: 'Violence is not conquered by violence. Lord, send us the gift of peace.

On Sunday, before and after his appeal during his Angelus address, Pope Francis called on the faithful to continue pray as well as help in providing material assistance.
