On Saturday September 13, Pope Francis will travel to Fogliano Redipuglia, in northeastern Italy. The aim of this three-hour visit is to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. ;

The Pope will take an 8 AM flight from Rome's Ciampino airport. At 9:15, he will pray alone in a cemetery where 14,000 Austro-Hungarian soldiers killed in the Great War are buried. He will also leave a bouquet of flowers at a monument dedicated to their memory. ;

At 10 AM, he will celebrate Mass in the 'Sacrario di Redipuglia'. This monumental cemetery is the resting place of more than 100,000 Italian soldiers who died during the First World War. ;

At the end of the Mass, Pope Francis will pray for the fallen and victims of all wars. He will also give a lantern to a group of bishops and military personnel. It will be lit for every commemoration of the First World War. Pope Francis will return to Rome at 12:50 PM.
